About the Buchan Ancient tartan

Buchan Ancient is a clan and family tartan. Clan and family tartans are traditionally worn by those of the name and their kin, though no law stops anyone wearing any tartan.

A tartan is one pattern of threads, and the same pattern comes in different depths of colour, each called a setting. Buchan is available in three of them — Ancient, Modern and Weathered — and this page is the ancient one. Ancient settings run lighter, weathered ones look faded as old cloth does, and modern settings are the deepest.

The sett is recorded in four colours: White, Black, Brown and Grey.
